Q: What is an MPPT solar charge controller and why do I need it?
An MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking) charge controller optimizes the power output from your solar panels, increasing the efficiency of solar energy capture, especially in varying sunlight conditions.
Q: Can I connect an MPPT with an inverter directly?
No! MPPT solar charge controllers are designed to efficiently direct current into your depleted battery. Connecting an MPPT solar charge controller directly to an inverter is a bad idea. Doing so can potentially damage your solar system, and if no damage occurs, the inverter will receive zero input. Therefore, always avoid connecting MPPT controllers directly to inverters.
Q: What does an MPPT do when the battery is charged to full?
When the battery voltage indicates that the battery is fully charged, the charger will disconnect and stop drawing power from the MPPT controller. At this point, the battery charger effectively presents a high impedance to the MPPT controller.
